Hildy James: recent college grad, wife, and journalist, has an extraordinary ability, she can see and communicate with the dead. Hired right out of college by Haunted America, a large multimedia company that specializes in the publication of America's most haunted, she has been given the opportunity of a lifetime. Hildy, her husband, Charlie, his twin, Cooper, and friends, Lizzy and Oliver, set out to uncover the secrets of the Clayton estate for their first assignment. Hildy thought this would be a simple weekend, with peaceful ghosts, like she had encountered in the past. She never expected to be targeted by a dark soul, though. A dark soul that wanted to remain hidden in the shadows, and would do anything to make sure that Hildy remained there, too. Excerpt: There it was again. The sound of a woman weeping hung heavy in the air. This was the reason I was running aimlessly alone in the dark. It was coming from a few feet in front of me. Then it stopped. “Hello?” I called out nervously. I came to a stop and strained to make out even the slightest sight or sound. The silence was deafening. I could feel my heart pounding and my breath came out in pants. I stood there for what felt like an eternity, when in reality it was only a couple of minutes. I took a deep breath, but before I could release it, she was right there. “She’s right behind you.” She whispered. A twig snapped. My blood ran cold. Before I could turn around, I felt two hands shove me hard from behind. What was once solid ground beneath my feet, morphed into air, and I went barreling over the side of the cliff.

I am really enjoying the idea behind these stories but find it very difficult to get past the bad grammar and need for editing. Perhaps this is because I am experienced at it or perhaps it is because the characters are college graduates. I hope the next book has fewer issues. Because the story itself is quite good. That said, I own all 3 of these )

When I read Dark Beginnings, it just left me wanting more and it was disappointing how small it was. This one made up for it. It had the action and mystery I so desperately craved. I do hope the series continues; I've fallen in love with all of the characters (even though Hildy and Charlie were way to lovey-dovey the entire time). )

My best friend is the author, and although that could make this review biased, it's not. I loved every word of it! It is very well written. It sucks you in early and doesn't let go until the very last line. It's got love, humor, ghosts, mystery and enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait for the rest of the series! ) 2 people found this helpful

Unique premise, Good story, characters are a little cartoonish, cast from a B movie horror film for lacking maturity. relationships are dysfunctional. Main character plays a psychological game of \"Rescue Me\" from stupid impulse. Really needs grammar correction and editing. ) One person found this helpful
