The Savannah Gondolier (The Saints of Savannah)

by Leigh Ebberwein

About this book

Her company was the prize in a late-night poker game.

Maggie didn’t need a Marketing degree to drive a trolley around Savannah for the past 14 years. When her father won a run-down kayaking company in a poker game, she traded in her business suit for a paddle and jumped at the opportunity to get paid for doing something she loved: kayaking.

He is a gondolier escaping from shame in Venice.

Leo once thought that being a gondolier was everything he ever wanted, but that all changed after his father’s accident and the circumstances surrounding it. When Leo decided to leave Venice, he was drawn to where his family spent their carefree summers: Tybee Island.

Will the water that brings them together divide them in the end?

Maggie must find a way to help Leo without losing what she loves. Beautiful places and lovable characters make this novel a stay-with-you-forever read.

The Savannah Gondolier is an absolute must read! It is set in the lovely waterways of my hometown, Savannah, Ga., but then the setting is also shared with the beautifully described canals of Venice, Italy and the island of Sant’ Erasmus (which I will now have to go and visit!). Reading about Maggie’s life on Tybee Island and Leo’s on Sant’ Erasmus gives the reader a glimpse into two very different cultures of the world, while teaching us that no matter how far or different our lifestyles, love...

This is the second book I have read authored by Leigh Ebberwein. To me, this book shows her continued refinement as an author. Her first book is excellent and well worth the read. This book, to me, develops the characters in even more depth and the descriptions of the locations in Savannah and Venice are spot on. Having grown up in Savannah and having visited Venice brought back many of the described locations to my mind. The main takeaways to me were family, romance, religion and a storyline...
