by Laurell K. Hamilton
Princess Meredith Gentry has escaped the lethal clutches of her cousin, Prince Cel, but her fight for the throne is far from over. As an heir to the Unseelie throne currently working as a private investigator in Los Angeles, Meredith faces a ticking clock. To secure her crown, she must conceive a child, a task that brings her closer to the dangerous and devoted warriors of her royal guard. This urban fantasy series masterfully blends high-stakes political maneuvering with the intense, carnal allure of the Fae.
While the race for the throne intensifies, a malevolent, ancient force begins to unravel the fabric of reality itself. Meredith must navigate the treacherous waters of courtly politics while balancing her duties as a protector of the mortal world. For fans of slow-burn romance and complex world-building, the tension between her royal responsibilities and her growing harem of protectors is electric.
This installment deepens the mythology of the Fae, offering a dark, atmospheric escape that prioritizes character chemistry and intrigue over procedural mystery. If you are seeking a paranormal romance that refuses to shy away from the darker side of magic and desire, Meredith’s journey remains an addictive, must-read experience that leaves you desperate for the next chapter.

Great second book. I love the adventure.. not so much the helping the cops. I'd read the Anita Blake series for that. Love all the guys. I can't wait to read book 3. )

I like this series better than the Anita Blake series. There are multiple lovers, but it seems very different. The politics and maneuvering of the courts is fascinating and fun. )

I have read through most of her books at least twice and love them. The details and depth in the story line are perfect and I definitely recommend them to everyone. )

Silly me. I waited until this book came out in paperback before I purchased it. I even waited a few weeks. And then it sat on my desk for days and days before I finally read it. Silly, silly me. Wow. When I first read Kiss of Shadows years ago, I didn't really think anything of it. I thought, \"Yeah, it was okay, but it was no Anita Blake book. Why is she making this new series, anyway?\" A Caress of Twilight has completely changed my opinion of the Merry Gentry series. Do I now like them...
