A Fire in the Sky: A Novel

by Sophie Jordan

About this book

In the kingdom of Penterra, magic is a fading memory and dragons are nothing more than myths. Tamsyn lives in the eye of this storm, serving as a royal whipping girl forced to bear the physical punishments meant for the spoiled princesses. Caught between the glittering indifference of the court and her forbidden connection to the Captain of the Guard, she is a woman without a home, defined only by her duty and her silence.

Everything changes when the savage Beast of the Borderlands, Fell, demands a royal bride. To protect the throne, Tamsyn is thrust into a dangerous masquerade, forced to wed a man feared for his brutality. What begins as a desperate deception quickly spirals into a dark romance defined by volatile chemistry and lethal stakes. When her true identity is exposed on their wedding night, she finds herself trapped in a marriage where she is both a prisoner and a pawn.

This sweeping urban fantasy is a masterclass in the enemies-to-lovers trope, blending high-stakes royal intrigue with the raw, primal energy of shifter lore. As Tamsyn uncovers the terrifying, dormant power buried within her own blood, she must decide if Fell is her greatest threat or her only hope for survival.

Great dragon romantasy! Sucked me right in!

This is my first time reading this author! I was so excited to get this book as I've had it preordered for weeks. And I have to say, I really enjoyed the book! First, the general plot is interesting and intriguing. I liked the world, and the world building was good. I feel like it has a lot of similar elements of a magical fantasy world. But, there are some differences to make it stand out. I liked the characters. Our FMC has the potential to be a strong powerful FMC. Her past is interesting...

Great Story but some of the plot was kind of slow

This book was good and I will read the next book in the series. The main character is the royal whipping girl for her “sisters”. She was left at the palace by her parents and the Queen took her in and raised her along side her daughters. She was treated like the princesses in every way but she was the one that took any punishments when her sisters got in trouble. This sets up for the King trading her to the Beast of the Boarderlands when he demanded one of the princesses to wed in exchange for...

Fantasy Romance

Dragons are extinct. Magic is dying. But one girl may hold the key to everything. I absolutely devoured A Fire in the Sky by Sophie Jordan. From the very first page, I was pulled into the dangerous, magical world of Penterra. Tamsyn is such a compelling character—strong, resilient, and burdened with a destiny she doesn’t even know exists. Her struggles as both a servant and a reluctant bride to Fell, the fearsome Beast of the Borderlands, had me completely hooked. The dynamic between Tamsyn and...

A Fire in the Sky, non-spoiler review (4.5 stars)

To simply put, this book was breathtaking. Not only was it severely captivating, making me enthralled the entire time I read it, it was also easy to digest and understand. One thing that could have been delved deeper into would be the world building. Between the Castle Tamsyn grew up in, the forrest she journeys through, and the big bad Boarderlands- there is not much of a world. BUT for those who don’t like the complexity of trying to build a world in their mind, this book is great. The pace...
