This is the 2nd book in the series. I read (and LOVED) the first book (Dragon, Actually) and I knew the characters, their backgrounds, interactions, etc. That made the story richer for me (especially as we saw more of Annwyl and Fearghus in this book). However, I think you could read this book without reading the 1st in the series and not be lost. This book is the second in the Dragon Kin series. I liked the variety of plot devices involved, along with a lot of humor in the narrative. The book includes a lot of action, as in battle action, and also a lot of battle of the sexes action, with the added twist that the males and females are of different species. Can a book be too good? I don't think so, but this one is close. I laughed and laughed at the witty reparte among the characters. It was like going on a camping trip with my best friends, we all sat around drank beer and talked smack all evening. . . well into the next morning. I love the Dragon Kin series! It keeps getting better and better. The first book introduces the reader to the characters and the world which the author created. It does go into detail about Ferghous ( I apologize for the spelling of the names.) and Anawhal. The second book furthers their story while adding into it details about Briec and Thalaith. I love the dragons. All the siblings have such different personalities which you expect and I love the family dynamics. I can't wait to read the rest...
