Eight years after vanishing to forge her own path, Julie Lennart-Olsen returns to the treacherous, magic-drenched streets of Atlanta under the guise of Aurelia Ryder. The city remains a volatile battleground where technology and sorcery collide, but a far more personal threat has emerged. An ancient, malevolent force is hunting her adoptive mother, Kate Daniels, and a trail of gruesome murders signals the beginning of a prophecy that could destroy everything Julie holds dear.
To save her family, Julie must operate from the shadows, hiding her true identity behind a new face and formidable, newfound powers. However, her mission is complicated by the return of the only man she has ever loved. Caught in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, she must navigate the dangerous political landscape of supernatural factions while suppressing the ghosts of her past.
This gripping urban fantasy delivers the perfect blend of pulse-pounding action and simmering emotional tension. Fans of enemies-to-lovers and second-chance romance will be mesmerized by the complicated chemistry that threatens to unravel Julie's carefully constructed life. With its immersive world-building and relentless pace, this story is a must-read for anyone craving a sophisticated, shifter-filled adventure that refuses to let you look away.

When approaching a review I always try to think of how to best convey the feelings the book engendered in me and combine that with pertinent information about the story without being spoilery. Especially with books that I love as much as this one (as books that you love are notoriously more difficult to review than the ones were you found many things to criticize) I struggle with putting my impressions into words without resorting to empty industry platitudes. I have read (and loved) everything...

This, most recent, foray into the Kate Daniels world is a compulsive read. TBH, everything that the husband-wife duo of \"Ilona Andrews\" writes manages to end up on my must-read list. I think Ilona and Gordon are part of a new wave of authors who care about being accessible to their fans and, like the rest of us, are trying to get through this pandemic with their sanity intact. This book stemmed from a request to the authors from a front line healthcare provider in NYC, NY for a distraction...

This book, as the authors point out in the last line of the acknowledgements, is for the fans. And this reviewer, dear colleagues, is a fan. Let me re-emphasize, restructure my text so you can hear me more clearly. I am a fan. Ilona Andrews’ books are wildly popular, and there are certain entry points, series, that we access their work with. As the authors recently pointed out in a blog post, each of those entry points comes with their own fandom. Where you enter the world of Ilona Andrews...

I am a fan of the Kate Daniels series and was so happy to read Blood Heir. Set eight years after the epic Atlanta battle, Blood Heir has a new leading character, Julie, who has lived through some harrowing adventures and now calls herself Aurelia. Julie returns to Atlanta because the witch oracle tells her it’s her final chance to save her mother. It’s a plot device to keep Kate out of it, but mostly it made me miss wonderful Kate. I don’t know how self-publishing works, but, the authors...

This is a spin-off of the popular Kate Daniels series centered around the grown up Julie (now going by Aurelia Ryder), Kate’s former ward. If you’re new to the Kate Daniels world, the authors (Ilona Andrews is the pen name for a husband and wife writing team) did a nice job layering in the information you need to know, so you can easily start here. Two things to note, though. First, while you don’t need to have read the KD books to read this, there’s a lot of relationship background as well as...
