With Hearts of Flame (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Dark Academia Romantasy Novel of Vampires and Dragons Featuring Stenciled Edges and Illustrated Endpapers (Bloodwing Academy, 4)
Briar Boleyn
by Christine Feehan
Billionaire Jake Bannacotti has spent his life guarded and cold, shaped by the trauma of his upbringing and the crushing responsibility of raising his young son alone. As a member of the elusive leopard-shifting species, he is accustomed to keeping his instincts leashed and his heart locked away. However, his carefully controlled existence shatters the moment he meets Emma Reynolds. There is an inexplicable pull toward her, a primal recognition that defies logic and demands surrender.
Driven by a desperate need to keep her close, Jake hires Emma as his son’s nanny, placing her directly under his watchful gaze. What begins as a calculated move quickly spirals into an intense, volatile attraction. As a standout entry in the paranormal romance genre, this story masterfully weaves together the gritty intensity of shifter lore with a deeply emotional character arc. The chemistry between them is explosive, fueled by the possessive, jealous nature of a leopard shifter who has finally found his mate.
Readers will find themselves captivated by the tension as Jake discovers that Emma is far more than an ordinary human. This is a high-stakes, sultry urban fantasy that explores whether two broken souls can survive the heat of a love that burns wild.

For some reason, I consider this book my favorite so far out of the leopard series. We’ll see if it stays that way when I read Leopard’s Fury. He’s an emotionally broken, abused guy who believes everyone is in a position to betray him but slowly learns to love over two years of living with those who don’t run in his social circle. Emma, Drake, Joshua, Ethan, etc. It’s basically just a book of healing and finding that gentle, caring side that he thought was beat out of him as a child and I guess...

Did I enjoy this book - yes. Would I recommend - yes. That said, I thought for an ebook it was a bit pricey as it would only cost about $1 more and you could buy the paperback and there was an issue (for me) with the way it went from one person's pov to the next which caught me off guard at times as it happened so quickly -- e.g. one minute reading from H's pov, the next h's pov. But it is what it is. I really enjoyed the plot and the way the hero had to learn what love is and to accept love....

This is my favorite Feehan book so far. Very unique story. Jake is a character who has overcome a lot in life and I always like that. He is somewhat flawed but he is also searching. He finds what he wants but he relies on manipulation to get it. He's insecure because of a horrible childhood and even after all he has accomplished, he has no idea how to make Emma love him and stay with him just because of love. He keeps thinking there must be something else and he does his best to tie her to him...

I was afraid to read this book after reading some of the reviews. However, I took the plunge and I'm glad I did. Yes, if was brutal and uncomfortable at times. Jake was an a$$. At first. But if you stick with it you will get it. You will understand why the character had to be written that way. The character of Emma wouldn't have worked otherwise. Both the characters ended up being interesting, intense, and exciting. If Jake was a real person as opposed to a fictional character, would I like him...
