Gwenna is just trying to survive in a world where her secret—a forbidden talent for necromancy—could literally cost her her life. As she attempts to secure a stable career as a trainee with the Royal Artifactual Guild, she is determined to keep her head down and her ears closed to the ghosts whispering in her periphery. The last thing she needs is a distraction, especially one as large, arrogant, and dangerously alluring as Raptor, the Taurian she once foolishly shared a bed with.
Raptor is on a high-stakes mission to hunt down an artifact thief, but his investigation takes a complicated turn when he concludes that the culprit is none other than the woman he cannot stop thinking about. As the tension between them shifts from professional suspicion to an undeniable, forbidden-love chemistry, Gwenna must find a way to clear her name without revealing the deadly magic that defines her.
Blending urban fantasy with the high-heat intensity of monster romance, this sequel is a must-read for fans of Ruby Dixon’s signature style. If you are craving a paranormal romance that balances suspenseful world-building, spicy encounters, and the unique allure of shifter dynamics, this story delivers everything you need for your next book obsession.

This series was the first so called “Fairy Smut” I read. When some one told me what the genre was called, I said “there’s a genre called Fairy Smut?” Now I’ve read others, and enjoyed them all. I had thought that they’d all be rated X like this one. They’ve mostly been PG-13. They are all good fantasy, though, though the smut makes it much more enjoyable. Any way, this book is entirely wholesome smut among consenting magical creatures. )

By the Horns was so much fun! The 2nd monster romance in Ruby Dixon’s Royal Artifactual Guild. I had a fun time with the first book in the series last year and another great time with this 2nd release. Gwenna is a former servant, a repeater at the guild who desperately wants to land a job with the Royal Artifactual Guild so she can make a steady income and be able to help her mother. She has realized she can “feel” the presence of the dead…but necromancers were outlawed centuries ago and no one...

Ruby Dixon does an amazing job at creating worlds for us that are unique and utterly fascinating. Her characters are always so engaging and her stories are just plain fun to read. When you open a Ruby Dixon book you are guaranteed a story worth reading. Her worlds are always excellent places to get lost for awhile. This book, and this series are no exception. The city of Vastwarren with it's mysterious foundation literally built upon the long lost civilization of Old Prell has similarities with...

Not as fun as the first book. Some of the scenario seemed like a repeat of the first book. I know, Ruby Dixon builds worlds and creatures that sort of lend themselves to that repetition, but I was hoping for a lot more in By the Horns. ** SPOILERS ** ** SPOILERS ** ** SPOILERS ** - FMC does a lot of assumptions about why she cannot tell her secret, similar to the first book's FMC. - MMC tries to stay away from the FMC but eventually caves. - Yet again, the MMC is sent on a phony rescue mission...
