With Hearts of Flame (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Dark Academia Romantasy Novel of Vampires and Dragons Featuring Stenciled Edges and Illustrated Endpapers (Bloodwing Academy, 4)
Briar Boleyn
by Loki Renard
Possessive, powerful, and entirely unapologetic, Ornix is a dragon shifter who knows exactly what he wants: Melissa. When he sets his sights on this human woman, he decides that she is his mate, regardless of her initial resistance. What follows is a high-stakes, dark paranormal romance where the line between capture and courtship blurs under the heat of a dragon’s desire.
This standalone novel leans heavily into the dark shifter romance genre, delivering intense, high-octane scenes that focus on primal attraction and power dynamics. Readers will find classic tropes like fated mates and a significant age gap, all wrapped in a narrative that emphasizes rough, unapologetic passion. It is a story where the heat levels are turned up to the maximum, catering specifically to fans who enjoy a more aggressive approach to romance.
Beyond the intensity, the story offers a surprising layer of humor as Melissa begins to embrace her inner chaos, leaving the stoic dragon shifter struggling to keep up with her antics. While the connection between the leads is built primarily on raw, physical chemistry rather than slow-burn emotional discovery, it remains an addictive, fast-paced ride for those craving a wild, supernatural escape.

This was a funny, sexy read. I love, love, love the dialog between the characters. I enjoyed watching Meliisa embrace her inner chaos and watching Ornix try to keep up with her is hysterical. )

So this is a dark grey book, lots of spanking/punishment. I did have a hard time with the connection between the FmC and mmc. There wasn’t a whole lot of connection other than rough sex. No deep connection and to be honest I had a hard time with the mmc for a lot of the book. The ending was abrupt but the storyline was good, not a lot of twists and no surprises. Spice was 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ ) One person found this helpful

I liked this story about Melissa (human woman) and Ornix (dragon shifter), although I didn't care for Melissa at first but she grew on me as the book went on. This was an age gap story (Ornix was at least a 1,000 years old and Melissa just got out of college). What I didn't like about Melissa was she thought she could just do what she wanted regardless of authority. By that, I mean she had a number of fines leveled against her while she was in college for doing things, so she couldn't get her...

This is one where he really had a hard time teaching his mate what he could do. It all worked out in the end but it was really arduous. Good read. )

I totally loved \"Dragon's Mate\" and the way Loki Renard developed each character to their full potential. The on and off interaction between Ornix and Melissa was an absolute plus to the tale keeping them unpredictable. Great storyline with fabulous writing. We need more Dark Dragon Shifter Romance. )
