Audiobook review: narrated by Avery Caris and Jonathan Lake 4.5 stars for story / 5 stars for performance This is the first book from this series I’ve read and it can absolutely be enjoyed without reading the earlier books. I did not feel lost or like I was missing anything at any point. The story is exciting and sad and funny, somehow all at once. Be mindful of content warnings and the humor is dark but well done. The storyline was so good and the perfect book for spooky season!! I enjoyed it...

This book got me out of a reading slump, and that is the highest praise. The story was fast, yet deep and with twists. It moved organically, where the love progression between the MMC and FMC was believable. It was an intense, all-consuming love, sprinkled with lots of spice, some humor, and lots of fantasy and gore. I will say, I enjoyed the story. It's kinda cheesy, like an 80s frat-boy horror. But the monster and the girl win. I loved how Sylas & Mina's relationship developed. But there were quite a few cheesy lines, and the end sex scene with multiple penises was just ridiculous. Missing words or misplaced words kept pulling me out of the story. It was frustrating! Definitely could've used an editor. Even after all that, I'm almost tempted to read more in the series, but not really. ) 12 people found...

Dark, but not too dark.. sweet, but not too sweet ... spicy, but not too weird.. this book was a great mix of a ton of things. It was incredibly quick to read and covered some pretty dark topics, but with two very strong characters that balance each other out so very well which made it easier to handle some of the topics raised.
