About this book

Uilleam MacRieve is a broken man. Once a proud and lethal Lykae warrior, he has been stripped of his instincts and left to rot by the ghosts of his traumatic past. Consumed by agony and seeking only the sweet release of death, he is pulled from the brink by an unexpected light: Chloe Todd. A spirited human woman thrust into the terrors of the supernatural auction block, Chloe is terrified, yet she possesses a resilience that ignites a dormant fire within the tortured Scot.

This installment of the Immortals After Dark series masterfully weaves historical grit with high-stakes urban fantasy. It is a quintessential enemies-to-lovers tale that leans heavily into dark romance, exploring the raw, primal connection between a predator who has lost his way and the woman who becomes his anchor. As they retreat to the isolated, haunting Highland keep of his youth, their bond is tested by blood, secrets, and a supernatural destiny that threatens to shatter them both.

For fans of shifter romance, this story delivers the intense, visceral passion Kresley Cole is famous for. It is a found-family journey through darkness where the line between monster and protector blurs, leaving readers breathless until the final, heart-pounding page.

Reader Reviews

Not the best of Cole, but still worlds better than most other PNR

July 11, 2013

Edit: I just reread this book the other day and, while I will not change anything I wrote in my original review (since it was an honest first impression), I will add the following comments: on second reading, MacRieve is even better than it was the first time around. The elements that seemed flawed to me upon first reading didn't bother me the second time. I still don't think MacRieve packs quite the same emotional punch as the best Cole books. However, to me MacRieve now stands out as one of...

This is like an IAD short story went on for 300+ pages :(

First off, it's 3.5 stars but being a huge Cole/IAD fan I can't help but round up instead of down. That said, I just finished reading this and I'm wicked conflicted. Kresley Cole is my favorite author. She writes angst and hot sex like no other. Her voice, her style, really appeals to me and draws me in like no other author. After the many IAD books I felt like I knew her strengths, and her weaknesses, and knew what to expect from her. This book was different. Not sure I can pinpoint it exactly...

REBREAK THAT BONE, IT DIDN'T SET RIGHT!

July 18, 2013

MacRieve (Immortals After Dark #12) by Kresley Cole Will (Hotter, Crypt Keeper) & Chloe (Baby T-Rex, Soccer extraordinaire) Ok Ok Ok... breathe... inhale, exhale... Holy freaking hell!!! This book grabbed my by the lady balls and squeezed the ever-lovin' life out me. I am still reeling and will be for quite some time! Dark subject matter, but you can hardly break away from that with a Kresley Cole book, especially an IAD book. This is book #12 in the chain and I'm still just as hung up and hung...

You can't go wrong with the Immortals After Dark series!

September 12, 2013

In MacRieve (Immortals After Dark #13) by Kresley Cole, Uilleam \"Will\" MacRieve is a warrior who has lived and learned for many centuries, yet he still can't let go of painful events from his childhood. Those horrors have shaped who he has become today: a tormented Scottsman who would rather let his shapeshifter self take control than deal with hurtful emotions on his own. MacRieve never thought he would find his mate and has been glad he hasn't yet found her, thinking himself so damaged that...

Great book! Love this series!

If you aren't familiar with Kresley Cole's Immortal After Dark and The Dacians series, you really need to check her out. Luckily, even if you haven't read any of the previous books, you can dive right in since there's enough explanation of past events. Ok, onto the review! Minor spoilers ahead! Overview: Lykae Uilleam MacRieve (Will) has hit rock bottom. After centuries of trying to ignore a festering emotional wound, it's violently reopened, and now Will seeks to end his torment. There's only...
