Mistake of Magic: A Fated Mates Fae Fantasy Romance (Power of Five Book 2)

by Alex Lidell

About this book

Lera is the human anomaly the Fae world never saw coming. As the first human chosen by quint magic, she is viewed as a dangerous mistake by the Elders Council. Forced to choose between permanent exile from Lunos or the brutal humiliation of the lowest-level trainee status, her four fated mates—River, Shade, Coal, and Tye—are dragged back into the deadly trials they thought they had outgrown centuries ago.

This high-stakes paranormal romance masterfully blends the beloved academy trope with intense, slow-burn tension. As the quint navigates the treacherous politics of the Citadel, they must prove that their bond is more than just a magical error. But the trials are designed to break them, and Lera is the primary target. While her protectors are willing to sacrifice everything to keep her safe, Lera is determined to fight for their future, even if it means risking her life to defy the council.

Mistake of Magic avoids the dreaded second-book slump, delivering even more intensity and emotional depth than its predecessor. Perfect for fans of reverse harem romances who crave immersive world-building and fierce, protective shifters, this installment solidifies the series as a must-read for anyone seeking their next addictive obsession.

Floored and brimming with questions

June 29, 2018

I'm just going to get it out in the air, here, right now; there is no such thing as second book syndrome with this series. Book 2 is def even more well-written and more intense than the previous one. Generally speaking, the read is focusing on the politics within the Citadel: the dogmatic elders and the despicable bullying happening among the trainees throughout the trials. All at the meantime, Lera and company are discovering the nature of the magic, of their bonds. And of course as a reader,...

The newly formed quint makes its way to the citadel, but not without troubles along the way. At the citadel, they find themselves forced to face a series of trials, meat to test them, and Lera being both mortal and neither warrior or mage, is their weakest link. This book finds our heroes discovering their strengths and Lera’s unusual abilities. She begins to discover their secrets, and makes a little headway in her relationships with them. It’s an enjoyable story, not a standalone since it...

Reinforced how much I love this series.

Mistake of Magic is just as entertaining as Power of Five, if not more so. Book 2 has officially placed this series into my top three favorite RH series, ever. In this second installment of the RH series, Lera must undergo trials set by the fae court to prove her worth and join her quintet. More is revealed about her latent powers and her relationship with Coal, Shade, Tye, and River especially. Hopefully now that Lera realizes how powerful she can be, she will grow to be even more of a badass...

Another magical entry in Lera's world!

Another fabolous entry into this wonderous Fae world! Lera proved herself brave amd capable in the last book, and helped save her quint from destruction. The Quint made it to the citadel, now what happens? Their tests are far from over. Who are these Elders? Can they really be trusted? The Quint is forced to go through the trials again to prove their connection is real, all the while Lera deepens her connections with the men on her team. Turns out Lera is more than meets the eye, but she's...

A good second installment

That’s about all I can say. Lera and her guys make it to the Citadel and in order to officially form their quint, are told they need to go through the trials. Shenanigans abound and that makes things infinitely more interesting and complicated. Lera, with the help of Autumn, discovers more about her place in the quint. Deals are made, threats are hinted at, and we learn a bit more about Coal in this book. I’d love to know more about them all, but him in particular. Hopefully as the series...
