With Hearts of Flame (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Dark Academia Romantasy Novel of Vampires and Dragons Featuring Stenciled Edges and Illustrated Endpapers (Bloodwing Academy, 4)

by Laurell K. Hamilton
Anita Blake is no stranger to the dark underbelly of St. Louis, but in this high-stakes installment, she is pulled far from her comfort zone. When the lethal professional hitman Edward calls in a favor, Anita finds herself traveling to Albuquerque to hunt a monster that defies classification. As they navigate a deadly landscape filled with ancient, vengeful shapeshifters, the line between ally and enemy blurs, forcing Anita to confront the terrifying reality of her own power.
This urban fantasy powerhouse masterfully balances pulse-pounding action with the complex, slow-burn tension the series is famous for. As Edward—a man as dangerous as the creatures he hunts—takes center stage, readers witness a chilling exploration of morality in a world where monsters hide in plain sight. The historical ties to the creature’s origins add a layer of depth that elevates the stakes beyond a simple monster-of-the-week procedural.
For fans seeking a gritty paranormal romance with high-octane thrills, this novel remains a definitive high point in the long-running series. It delivers the perfect blend of supernatural intrigue and visceral danger, proving that sometimes the most terrifying predators are the ones you call friends. Strap in for a dark, unforgettable ride.

I'm 9 books in to the Anita Black series and Laurell Hamilton keeps cranking up the tension. There are 25 books in this series. Spoilers are marked below. Proceed at your own risk. Our heroine, Anita Black, keeps getting more and more damaged as well. Some of this is external. At one point she's comparing scars with Deuce, one of Riker's mercenaries... \"What did it?\" \"Vampire.\" He raised his shirt up... \"Mortar round.\" Some of it is internal. Sometimes this is from choices innocently made...

First, let me say that this is the LAST GOOD Anita Blake book Laurell K. Hamilton wrote. Hence the five star rating. Everything that follows it take it as given that I rated them 1 star. I am frankly mystified. Anita Blake used to be a series I waited eagerly to read. Then after Obsidian Butterfly (the last GOOD story LKH wrote) it was like someone flipped a switch. Or maybe LKH had a ghost writer that quit and she had to find someone else. Or maybe it was more about her personal life. The...

When I read her first 4 books I bought EVERY book she has written from Amazon. I had never read these types of books before and I was so pleased even though she continually talks about her cute petite size (OH PLEASE STOP), her cache of weapons (SNORE), and the same phrases over and over and over. Her character of Jean Claude (WHY WOULD SOMEONE 400 YEARS OLD PUT UP WITH A WOMAN THAT WOULD BOSS HIM AROUND AND STOP ACTS IN HIS NIGHT CLUB BECAUSE \"SHE\" KNOWS ALL ABOUT THE LAWS...REAL AND MORAL?)...

Obsidian Butterfly packs a real wallop. There is more suspense, more gore, more pulse pounding dry- mouthed horror and more eerie magick than any other book in the series. And it was great to get to know Edward better. Laurel K. Hamilton never fails to fascinate! )
