Romancing the Werewolf: A Supernatural Society Novella

by Gail Carriger

About this book

Biffy is the newly minted Alpha of the London pack, but his life as a Victorian werewolf is far from glamorous. Between the pack’s vocal disdain for his interior design choices and the mysterious arrival of abandoned human babies on his doorstep, his Christmas is rapidly descending into chaos. He is a leader in crisis, desperately in need of the one person who knows how to keep the pack—and his own heart—in check.

Enter Professor Randolph Lyall, a brilliantly efficient Beta returning to London after twenty years abroad. His arrival brings much-needed order to the pack’s mounting turmoil, but it also forces a long-overdue confrontation with the past. As they navigate the complexities of pack dynamics and the unexpected demands of sudden fatherhood, a tender, pining romance begins to bloom between them.

This charming urban fantasy is a masterclass in witty, historical queer romance. Brimming with found-family warmth, strategic interior decorating, and the delightful absurdity of shifters handling infants, it is an essential read for fans of paranormal fiction. Whether you are a longtime devotee of the Parasolverse or a newcomer looking for a sweet, humorous escape, this novella offers a perfect blend of supernatural stakes and heartfelt connection.

a frothy confection of a story

November 29, 2017

This book is absolutely delightful. It’s sweet and thoughtful, and packed full of the kind of wit and dry humor that Carriger excels at. But the absolute best thing about this little romance novella is that it gives you everything you want for Biffy and Lyall after the parasol series - a perfect, light touch of angst and misunderstanding, and everything coming out right, and characters getting a little distracted by wayward sexy thoughts, and the ending you’re hoping for. Followed by a very...

Sweet

Warning: M/M romance; skip if it's not your thing. This is a very sweet story, both romance wise and with the baby plot. Seeing the werewolves react to babies is priceless. There's a little bit of action, a lot of character development, and some sweet, tender romance. Lovely book. )

Hats, drapes and... romance?

This is an offshoot of Ms Carriger's Parasolverse, which I've loved for years. It's the story of Professor Lyall, formerly beta werewolf to the legendary Alpha Lord Maccon of the London pack (whose Alpha madness forced him and wife Alexia to relocate to Egypt, land of the God-breaker plague) , and Biffy (aka Lord Rabiffino), who despite his young age, became alpha of the London pack. Biffy became a werewolf by accident (he was a drone to the vampire Lord Alkedama), but his innate leadership...

More supernatural fun!

I adore Gail Carriger’s work because there’s so much fun & wonder & lightness to counterbalance the inherent darkness associated with Vampires & Werewolves & the Supernatural. This tale is just as delightful, with the additional sweetness of romance between two favorite characters to go along with the wit, adventure, and moments of silly fun. As a writer, I respond well to work that feels effortless (even if I know it’s not), and that makes me forget about the writing; so I’m bestowing 5 stars...

Biffy and Lyall short story

February 20, 2018

My favorite author and my favorite universe. Count me a fangirl of anything written by Carriger. She is the most intelligent, articulate writer I have ever come across, and I breathe as much as I read. She makes so many characters who are just full of life and craftiness that you can't help to fall in love with and find what happens to them. This book is a short story about a couple of characters from one of her series that we just wanted to know more about their life and she doesn't...
