With Hearts of Flame (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Dark Academia Romantasy Novel of Vampires and Dragons Featuring Stenciled Edges and Illustrated Endpapers (Bloodwing Academy, 4)

by Patricia Briggs
Mercy Thompson is no stranger to danger, but her latest predicament strips away everything she holds dear. Abducted from her own territory and forcibly severed from the magical pack bond that links her to her werewolf mate, Adam, Mercy finds herself stranded and vulnerable in the heart of Europe. As a coyote shifter, her survival instinct is sharp, but she is now a pawn in a deadly game played by the world’s most powerful vampires.
For fans of urban fantasy, this installment delivers a high-stakes adventure that tests the limits of found-family loyalty. Stripped of her usual support system, Mercy must navigate the treacherous, ancient streets of Prague, where mythical ghosts and political machinations collide. She is forced to decipher who can be trusted in a landscape of shifting alliances, all while racing against time to prevent a catastrophic war between supernatural factions.
This gripping entry in the beloved series leans into the tension of pack dynamics and the thrill of survival. While the series is renowned for its slow-burn romance, Mercy’s isolation highlights the profound strength of her bond with Adam. It is a must-read for anyone seeking a fast-paced, atmospheric tale where cunning, courage, and resilience are the only weapons that truly matter.

I was a little worried when I saw that Mercy’s bond to Adam, and the Pack, was going to be broken. Again. The blurb makes it sound much more familiar than the reality of the circumstances are. I was thankful for that, because I might have been a bit frustrated had I been compelled to deal with the broken bond again. Honestly, for me, Mercy and Adam are so tightly wound that I know there is nothing that can break them apart. And that’s just the way I like it. Fair warning: Mercy and Adam spend...

It’s been a long time since a book actually pulled me in enough that I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen. Silence Fallen was a solid 5 stars. I liked that it was vampire-centric, although Marsilia seemed to have more “screen-time” than by beloved Stefan. Marsilia’s old flame, Iacopo Bonarata, now going by Jacob and more formally The Lord of Night (aka the head of the Milan, Italy, seethe, once lover of Marsilia, and the de facto leader of the European vampires) got wind of Adam...

First, my only real criticism (and this is for the book specifically as well as the series generally): the book basically opens with Mercy getting kidnapped. Again. There are really only so many times a woman should be kidnapped in her life. (I read a book once where the MC was kidnapped at least four times in one book. That's bordering on ridiculous.) Mercy has spent a lot of time in this series getting kidnapped and assaulted. The saving grace is that she does get to spend some time rescuing...

Glorious! I devoured this book in record time. How a series that I initially gave no chance to, could so quickly become one of my absolute favorite series is a bafflement to me. But it is true. Patricia Briggs has a gift for writing strong, ferocious heroines that still engender empathy in her readers. This is book 10 in the series, and these are NOT, I repeat NOT standalones. So, unfortunately, spoilers for the previous books may occur. But let me tell you, if you have any interest at all in...

To say that I am a fan of the Mercy Thompson series is really an understatement. I have read every book and that actually makes me potentially a great critic. Where other series can start to get stale or predictable this series has remained strong! Silence Fallen steered away from the formula and gave us new features to look forward to in future installments. Fan-tast-ic! Mercy is back and this time she is not the one getting herself into a predicament. She was abducted as part of a power play...
