Slaying the Frost King (Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers)

by Candace Robinson

About this book

Morozko, the ruthless Frost King, demands a yearly sacrifice to sustain his icy realm. When his pride is pricked, he shifts his decree, demanding a maiden instead of the usual tribute. Eirah, a guarded toymaker, is chosen to save her village, finding herself dragged into the heart of a frozen palace as a prisoner of the very monster she was taught to fear.

This gripping paranormal romance masterfully executes the enemies-to-lovers trope, trapping a resilient heroine in a high-stakes game of survival. As Eirah navigates the forced proximity of the king’s lair, the tension between them begins to thaw, giving way to a dangerous, slow-burn attraction. However, the king has made his promise clear: one of them must die by the other’s hand, turning their intimate dance into a lethal countdown.

If you are craving a dark romance filled with morally gray royalty and atmospheric, chilling world-building, this story is your next obsession. It is a standalone tale that balances sharp wit with visceral, icy stakes. Perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses, this shifter-filled adventure offers an addictive blend of suspense and smoldering heat that will leave you breathless until the final, shocking turn.

Good story, written strangely

February 6, 2025

You could definitely tell the difference in the authors based on writing skills. The ending didnt make sense. Unless there's going to another one?? Felt a little rushed in areas.. lacked some emotional connection between characters... but overall great story. ) One person found this helpful

Great second book to the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers Saga

October 19, 2023

This was my first book by this author but certainly won't be my last. Her writing is very engaging, witty & full of snark with vivid descriptions of people, places & events. I loved the story of Eirah & Mozomo. Her first assessment of him was spot on! She has great strength, determination, fortitude & a give em hell kinda tude. She's a normal village girl that's creates music boxes & is also a toy maker, as is her father, whom she lives with. Her BF, Saren lives right next door with her...

Chilling, Action-Packed Fantasy Romance with low level Spice

September 13, 2023

Stand alone in the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers collection Trust. Pride. Be prepared for a chilling, action-packed, magic-wielding enemies to lovers romance in this frosty tale. Great mix of action and romance woven into the storyline. Well-developed characters who show growth. Detailed world building. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and the \"little bird\" endearment gave me all the feels. \"She is mine.\" \"What does it matter what you are? As long as we know what you can do. Who...

It's got all the meat but none of the sides

January 9, 2025

I wanted to love this, but it's giving the same level of modernity as reading my grandma's romance novels from the 80s and 90s. The plot is there and deserved More, the potential for an epic romance and adventure is there but falls short. Everything develops too quickly between MCs without actual arc for it to occur, FMC is barely an adult, a virgin, and pliant... if you're a romantasy 6 already know why this is sometimes problematic but it FELT yucky. The MMC speaks about her in a predatory...

Sweet and well paced

July 29, 2023

Progression from enemies to lovers was a slow burn but the emotional build to their love for each other was well paced. The steamy scenes were too sweet and innocent, with none of the possessiveness I was expecting. Story was more about combatting changelings. And the foreshadowing visions were distracting even though some didn’t happen exactly as predicted, but I guess the characters needed the extra assist to get them to a solution somehow, otherwise this book would go on forever with them...
