The Last Wolf: The Legend of All Wolves (The Legend of All Wolves, 1)

by Maria Vale

About this book

Silver Nilsdottir exists at the bottom of the Great North Pack’s rigid hierarchy, a woman defined by her low rank and limited prospects. Her world is governed by ancient, ironclad laws that demand absolute separation between the wolves and the outside world. However, when she discovers a wounded stranger named Tiberius Leveraux trespassing on their territory, her instinct to help overrides her fear of punishment. By choosing to save him, she defies her leaders and sets off a chain of events that threatens the fragile peace of her entire pack.

This captivating series opener revitalizes the paranormal shifter genre through meticulous world-building and a raw, visceral approach to wolf culture. Maria Vale masterfully balances the tension of pack dynamics with a burgeoning, high-stakes romance that feels as dangerous as it is inevitable. The narrative thrives on the complexity of its characters, grounding its supernatural elements in a realistic, animalistic study of loyalty and survival.

Readers looking for a fresh take on urban fantasy will find themselves immersed in a society where tradition clashes with desire. With its focus on found-family, deep-rooted beliefs, and the consequences of breaking the rules, this story offers a sophisticated, enthralling experience that lingers long after the final page is turned.

10 stars!

This is a fantastic, hard world with wolves, shifters and humans. The wolves have a strong culture based on beliefs and rules, one of which is don't have anything to do with shifters. The h brings home the H, he's injured and worse, he's a shifter. She's the runt of the pack and as he identifies as human, he's horrified by them and her, at first. The writing is fantastic, we feel and see their connection develop amid this strong culture where they are both uncomfortable with the others dual...

Original ideas

I enjoyed a lot about this book. The premise is more my idea of shifter lore, I like the three best developed characters (only one being a lead character). I liked the use of the old language. I liked that in quite a few passages that showed me the author is going to be one of the best. My problem was the unevenness if the writing itself especially 'voicing' I imagine that will even out so will recommend and pick up the second. )

Excellent World Building & Details

The animal research that went into this is fantastic. So many realistic concepts about what a wolf/human (in the book called \"skin\") culture might be like. There is some humor, some sensual stuff, and lots of vivid descriptions that immerse you in the world that Maria Vale has built. The language used is gorgeous and doesn't spare with the big words, which I love. I am hoping there will be a book that covers the time between the prologue and the first chapter someday. I finished this and...

3.5 stars Silver is the runt of the pact and doesn’t aspire for much more. She wants to be attached to someone but who wants to mate with the smallest and least significant wolf? When a shifter comes in their midst, she sees a chance to be coupled with someone. Maybe even loved. But can he, Tiberius, be trusted. Tiberius knows what to say to get his way. He’s learned from his dad but he’s surprised to find that he truly enjoys being around wolves, being in his wolf form and getting to know...

You've Never Read a Shifter Book Like This

April 20, 2018

There is not another paranormal shifter book like this one (or until the author releases the sequel, anyway). While there is a plot (a good one, with danger!), a romance (also a good one, with great sex scenes that are there because they make sense in the story and not because there were a few blank pages to fill), and every indication that a happily-ever-after will occur, these serve as a backdrop to the main event -- an exploration of the psychology of humans who are also beasts. Or maybe...
