This has been a wonderful ride following this wonderful cast of characters. Deborah Wilde, in my opinion, is a marvelous writer. There are many parts that make me wish I was a faster reader because I'm like a kid being told I was going to Disneyland and every second is to slow until you get there. Fantastic writing, Ms. Wilde as written several wonderful characters and I love them all. Another winner! This book was a nail biter. I’m not a real fan of trips to hell or some dangerous world because they are often drawn out to the point of exhaustion…is it done yet? And often times the evil characters are just either gross or violent to the point of brutal. I sometimes get an anxious feeling because I just want the quest to be over with! Another interesting story in Miri's adventures. The story was kind of all over the place, but had a decent ending. There were some really good lines, like \"Weird was a distant signpost in the rearview mirror of my life.\" Looking forward to the next book. )

Every time a new Magic After Midlife book comes out, I think this is it, this is the one. My new favorite Miri. But good Lord. Deborah Wilde brought it home in The Shade of Things and broke my ever loving heart with the absolute roller coast of emotions she took me on. Got ten stars this story deserves it. It starts fast and keeps up the pace all through. Miri is paired with her ex to solve one mystery only to be thrown into several more that brings everyone she cares about into the mix and magic abounds and her wolf shifting lover helps to bring the world back in line before she is totally dead. Boy what scary fun and breath taking story. Definitely not a lightweight read her teen is involved also. )
