The Shade of Things: A Humorous Paranormal Women's Fiction (Magic After Midlife Book 5)

by Deborah Wilde

About this book

Miriam Feldman just wants a quiet life, but the universe keeps handing her high-stakes chaos instead. Navigating life after forty is tough enough without being forced into a deadly, reality-bending competition to rescue a missing person. Teaming up with her detective ex-husband, Miri finds herself juggling a mouthy golem, a mysterious vampire demanding a dangerous artifact, and the long-buried secrets surrounding her parents’ deaths. It is the kind of midweek madness that would break a lesser woman, but Miri has exactly zero effs left to give.

This installment of the pulse-pounding urban fantasy series expertly blends high-octane mystery with the sharp, laugh-out-loud humor characteristic of the best paranormal women’s fiction. As Miri races against time, she must also manage the sizzling tension of a second-chance romance with a swoony wolf shifter. The chemistry is undeniable, but secrets are piling up, and her shifter beau is currently in the dark about the life-threatening risks she is taking.

If you crave a story featuring a relatable, smart heroine who refuses to be a damsel in distress, this is your next binge-read. It is a thrilling, witty, and deeply emotional ride that proves magic after midlife is anything but ordinary.

Book #5 - The Shade of thing: Fantastically thrilling

July 22, 2022

This has been a wonderful ride following this wonderful cast of characters. Deborah Wilde, in my opinion, is a marvelous writer. There are many parts that make me wish I was a faster reader because I'm like a kid being told I was going to Disneyland and every second is to slow until you get there. Fantastic writing, Ms. Wilde as written several wonderful characters and I love them all. I laugh out loud at parts and I'm enjoying read her story to a point I can't wait to read, what I'm guessing,...

LOVE THIS SERIES!

Another winner! This book was a nail biter. I’m not a real fan of trips to hell or some dangerous world because they are often drawn out to the point of exhaustion…is it done yet? And often times the evil characters are just either gross or violent to the point of brutal. I sometimes get an anxious feeling because I just want the quest to be over with! I know that’s a sign of good writing & I appreciate the talent of those authors BUT I truly enjoyed Deborah’s spin on the Human Race. It was a...

\"Weird was a distant signpost in the rearview mirror of my life\"

Another interesting story in Miri's adventures. The story was kind of all over the place, but had a decent ending. There were some really good lines, like \"Weird was a distant signpost in the rearview mirror of my life.\" Looking forward to the next book. )

An Unbelievable Roller Coaster of Emotions

Every time a new Magic After Midlife book comes out, I think this is it, this is the one. My new favorite Miri. But good Lord. Deborah Wilde brought it home in The Shade of Things and broke my ever loving heart with the absolute roller coast of emotions she took me on. If you have been like me and have been wondering about backstories, this is the book for you. Ah, but whose backstory will be revealed? And whose story will break your heart? The action is non-stop in this book and I was on the...

Got ten stars this story deserves it. It starts fast and keeps up the pace all through. Miri is paired with her ex to solve one mystery only to be thrown into several more that brings everyone she cares about into the mix and magic abounds and her wolf shifting lover helps to bring the world back in line before she is totally dead. Boy what scary fun and breath taking story. Definitely not a lightweight read her teen is involved also. )
