Throwing Shade: A Humorous Paranormal Women's Fiction (Magic After Midlife Book 1)

by Deborah Wilde

About this book

Miriam Feldman has spent decades mastering the art of being aggressively normal. As a divorced law librarian, her only priorities are keeping her daughter safe and hiding the volatile shadow magic that has simmered beneath her skin since her parents were murdered. But when her best friend disappears after a run-in with vampires, Miriam realizes that playing it safe is no longer an option. It is time to ditch the shapewear, embrace the chaos, and unleash the power she has fought so hard to suppress.

Plunged into a dangerous urban fantasy underworld, Miriam finds herself out of her depth but never out of audacity. To survive, she is forced to forge an unlikely alliance with a grumpy French wolf shifter. Their partnership is a masterclass in the grumpy-sunshine trope, fueled by sizzling, inconvenient chemistry and a constant barrage of witty banter. He may be determined to protect her, but Miriam is a woman with zero effs left to give, and she is more than capable of holding her own.

This hilarious, high-stakes paranormal women's fiction novel is the perfect escape for readers craving a midlife heroine who proves that life—and magic—only gets better with age. Dive in for a wild ride where the stakes are high, the secrets are deadly, and the second act is just beginning.

Paranormal adventures with twists

October 24, 2025

A well written and paced story with a smart heroine ready for a change of career. There's a bit of humor, interesting side characters, the requisite sexy wolf shifter (why always hot wolves? How about a sexy hunk who turns into an elk? A pig? A bison?). There is also a great divorce arrangement. But what sets this book apart is the use of Jewish culture/ mythology/ lore in the use of monsters and mayhem. I kept turning to Wikipedia and found a trove of information. Ms. Wilde doesn't make them...

So many types of paranormals and just the plots makes the story interesting and captivating. Though a few filler moments but not too bad. ) One person found this helpful

Another Awesome Book from Deborah Wilde!

October 17, 2022

4½ stars. I have read other books by Deborah Wilde, so I have been looking forward to reading Throwing Shade for awhile. I waited to read it until most of the series was out because with her other works I tore through the whole collection in a matter of days, & I didn't want to be stuck waiting for what happens next. The book did not disappoint. Deborah Wilde writes such relatably realistic characters. I related to Miri so well, as we are of an age. (On a side note, it is so nice that authors...

My favorite PWF yet!

March 15, 2021

Paranormal Women’s Fiction was that genre I didn’t know I needed until some fanfreakingtastic authors came around and created it. Ever since then I have been devouring PWF series like crazy. When Deborah Wilde announced that she was launching a new PWF series, I was bouncing out of my seat excited. And let me tell you what, she did. Not. Disappoint. Fans of Shannon Mayer’s, K.F. Breene’s, Robin Peterman’s, and Darynda Jones’s PWF series will absolutely love Miriam as their latest midlife...

I waited until I finished the entire series to write a review. I bindged listened this series. I listened to these books constantly until Iwas done. The narration was pretty awesome, the plot, twists, turns, action were awesome. The character were so funny. I know i must have looked like a crazed person while riding my bike and listening to Mitsy and Huff and Puff. Loved it. I hope you give it a chance. ) 4 people found this helpful
