by River Tatum

About this book

Investigative journalist Harper Stone has spent her career chasing hard facts, but the Montana wilderness holds a mystery that defies logic. After a brush with death leads her into the path of a silver-eyed wolf, she finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Cole Mercer. As the Alpha of the elusive Blackpine pack, Cole is sworn to protect his people’s ancient secret at all costs. But when their worlds collide, the undeniable pull of fated mates threatens to unravel the carefully constructed barriers he has spent a lifetime maintaining.

This captivating paranormal romance masterfully blends high-stakes pack dynamics with a simmering slow-burn attraction. As Harper digs deeper into the impossible success rate of Cole’s rescue team, she faces a harrowing dilemma: expose the truth to launch her career or protect the man who captured her heart. With a dangerous poacher lurking in the shadows and the survival of an entire community on the line, loyalty becomes a lethal game.

Perfect for readers who crave found-family themes and intense, character-driven narratives, this story delivers a fresh take on the shifter genre. It explores the tension between instinct and intellect, proving that sometimes the deepest truths are the ones we are most afraid to believe.

This story grabbed my attention from the first page!

I really liked the way the authors framed this story from the beginning. This is not a bad guy kidnaps the heroine like a lot of stories are. No offense to the stories that do this, but I just wanted something new. This story really gave it to me. I am so glad there are more stories in this series. Loved this! )

New authors for me!

The storyline and characters were good. The writing style was odd to me. In several places, I felt like I was re-reading something I'd just read. Not sure if I'll read the next book or not. ) One person found this helpful

Promising, but…

I really wanted to like this book because it IS well-written in terms of grammar and structure. However, I only made it about 55% before abandoning it because there were too many distracting plot line inconsistencies. Further, many of the same literal handful of plot points repeat in ways that make the story drag. The editors need to take another read through to iron out those inconsistencies and remove redundancies, and then it’ll be a truly excellent novel. )

But I found it interesting enough to read through in just one day with very small breaks. An original (to me) twist on werewolves where not only does pack protect pack but a whole town of 'normies' protects pack as well. )
