Archangel's Ascension (A Guild Hunter Novel Book 17)

by Nalini Singh

About this book

For fans of high-stakes urban fantasy, the long-awaited evolution of the bond between Aodhan and Illium finally takes center stage. As members of Archangel Raphael’s legendary Seven, these two warriors have shared a lifetime of battles, but transitioning from lifelong friends to lovers proves to be their most dangerous mission yet. Nalini Singh returns to her breathtakingly immersive world, delivering a narrative defined by the beautiful, deep prose that has made this series a staple of the paranormal romance genre.

The stakes are personal and perilous as the duo investigates a mystery that dredges up the darkest corners of Aodhan’s past. Beneath the surface of their deepening romance lies the looming, terrifying specter of Illium’s ascension. While the trope of the turned-newborn often focuses on physical change, here it represents an existential crisis; the power threatening to consume Illium could strip him of his identity and his place within the Seven.

This installment is a masterclass in emotional storytelling, balancing intense action with the poignant vulnerability of a second-chance romance. Whether you are a longtime devotee of the series or seeking a rich, character-driven saga, this story offers a bittersweet, extraordinary journey that resonates long after the final page.

First, praise for Nalini Singh. Beautiful and thoughtful prose which is “a thing of” deep depths probed when it comes to character beings and story telling. I thank you, Ms. Singh, for your writing of this series and the absolute joy it has given me over the years. Next, this book was such a bittersweet telling of relationships deepened, characters fleshed-out, and beginnings of ends. Like most of Angel-kind 😁, Illium has been a favorite of fans and it was great to see his story develop...

The Guild Hunter series is one of my favorites. I have devoured every book and really love the entire cast of characters. The overarching plot, along with the mysteries each book contains, is always so well thought out. This book has two timelines that we follow. One is set 700 years in the future, and the other follows immediately after the events of Archangel's Lineage. The contrast of the two timelines are handled really well. The first timeline is set in the future when Illium ascends as an...

If this is the last book, then the series has gone out with a bang. I loved the love story between Adi and Blue. The book was full of so many wonderful moments and a lot of sad ones. It was bittersweet, as was the ending after Illium's ascension. The time skip was a surprise but it made sense. It would take that long for Blue to be ready. I was able to follow the back and forth fairly easily. The updates on various characters was nice, and it was a treat to see how some of the kids introduced...

Beautiful and heartbreaking

4.5 ⭐️ I was looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint. It’s told in current time and also 700 years prior, picking up with their first book left off. We get to see them come into their new relationship as lovers. Aodhan’s healing through the murder investigation was moving. Seeing him finally let go of things that still bothered him and become a new version of himself was sweet. Illium was there every step of the way, loving his Sparkles. The investigation was interesting, but was...

This definitely felt like goodbye, as if there won't be any more books and it hurt, it really hurt. So, okay, this book had me feeling things. I’ve been following the Guild Hunter series for a while now, and every time I think Nalini Singh can’t surprise me anymore, she does. Without giving too much away: the stakes are high, the emotions are intense, and the characters (especially all of the Seven and the Guard) are going through it. I loved how much heart this book had. There were moments...
