Lover Unleashed: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood

by J.R. Ward

About this book

Death has always been a constant companion for the Black Dagger Brotherhood, but for Payne, the twin sister of the lethal Vishous, the fight for her own life is only just beginning. After a catastrophic injury leaves her hovering between existence and extinction, the Brotherhood makes a desperate gamble: they recruit a brilliant human surgeon, Manuel Manello, to perform the impossible.

What begins as a medical intervention quickly ignites into a forbidden, high-stakes romance that defies the boundaries of two clashing worlds. As a human, Manny is entirely unprepared for the seductive, violent reality of the vampire aristocracy, and Payne is a warrior who has never known the softness of a soulmate. Their chemistry is instantaneous and electric, but their union is a beacon for ancient enemies. With a centuries-old vendetta closing in, the couple must navigate a treacherous landscape where love is the greatest vulnerability of all.

J.R. Ward delivers a masterclass in paranormal romance, seamlessly blending adrenaline-fueled action with deep emotional intimacy. This installment of the legendary series features the classic fated mates trope, elevated by complex world-building and the intense, gritty atmosphere fans crave. Prepare to lose sleep as you are pulled into this addictive, pulse-pounding saga.

Lover Unleashed

June 24, 2011

WARNING: Do not, I repeat do NOT crack the cover of this book unless you have the time to both begin and finish it! Tuesday morning, March 29, 2011, before I even got out of bed I fired up the Kindle (in the dark) and fumbled around until it was set to page one of this long-awaited novel. I proceeded to rush my 5-year-old through the morning routine and gleefully kicked her and my husband out the door with the warning that I would be reading all day so leave me alone. It took me roughly ten...

Excellent primary romance and layers onto the existing characters

March 29, 2011

Excellent, excellent addition to the series! In Lover Unleashed Ward weaves together several storylines: The first is the story of Vishous's twin sister, Payne, and the human surgeon Manny Manuello. The book starts off with Payne in the infirmary, having suffered a broken back at the end of the last book. Jane locates and brings Manny in to do surgery... and in classic Wrath-Rhage-Brother style it is love (and lust) at first sight. Watching them overcome the obstacles of paralysis, humanity,...

Good, but there's something missing (spoilers)

March 31, 2011

It's not easy to say what I'm thinking. I should probably let a day go by. I think there's something missing. I don't know what. The chapters with De La Cruz, Butch's old buddy in the police, are page fillers. Sorry. His new colleague is a guy who'll be the protagonist of the next book in the Fallen Angels series. I.Don't.Like.That. The plot was intertwined with the band of Xcor's merry bastards from the Old Country, but it seemed lame. I really thought the initial recognition of Butch by De la...

Still one of the best PNR series out there

July 11, 2011

Review posted here:[...] The Black Dagger Brotherhood are back. After the nearly year long wait, having this book in my hands definitely calmed my nerves. But the wait is finally over and I am happy to report, it was worth it. This book immediately begins in the middle of a war. We are actually introduced to new vampires, the Anti-Brotherhood if you will. They are about slaughtering lessers and humans alike for sport. Bloodletter, the leader of the Anti-Brotherhood, has been murdered by a woman...

Gone with the Words review...

April 23, 2011

(Review originally posted at GoneWithTheWords.com) Where to begin with this book? I love Manuel Manello. Manny is intense but I like that he's a smart ass. He also doesn't take crap from anyone. Payne is just kick-ass, plain and simple. I felt their relationship was...interesting. Maybe it had to do with the fact that they spent most of the book in the recovery rooms of the Brotherhood's place. Once they they were outside the walls of the mansion, things got better. I finally got to see them as...
