Bound and Unbound: A paranormal novella duology

by Kiersten White
For centuries, Lucy Westenra has been defined by her tragic death at the hands of Dracula. Reimagined as a fierce, immortal survivor, she has spent her undead existence running from the shadow of the man who turned her. This gothic fantasy breathes new life into the classic vampire myth, transforming a victim of folklore into a protagonist who is finally ready to claim her own narrative and seek a destiny beyond her maker’s reach.
The story shifts between the haunting echoes of the past and the glitz of modern-day London, where Lucy encounters Iris, a woman trapped by her own family’s sinister legacy. Their burgeoning romance is a masterclass in slow-burn tension, offering a queer, dark-romance heartbeat to a tale otherwise steeped in blood and betrayal. As they unravel the corrupt secrets of Iris’s corporate empire, they find themselves fighting for a future that neither ever thought possible.
With its lush prose and shifting perspectives, the novel is a gripping urban-fantasy experience that feels both timeless and urgent. It is a story of reclamation, vengeance, and the terrifying beauty of loving someone when the world is determined to tear you apart. If you crave a vampire epic that balances visceral horror with tender, hard-won intimacy, this is your next obsession.

I don't normally write reviews but I'll do it here simply because after finishing it's become one of my favorite vampire novels. There were a couple twists that were genuinely surprising but in hindsight you can easily see the writing on the walls. The chapters are generally chronological but the povs aren't, the information is also diagetic in that you learn alot of these things as the main characters do or recount where their actions begin to make way more sense It's good, it's good I want...

Holy moly… you will never know what you are diving into. this book is a gem!! i dont really enjoy so many point of view characters, but they way it was built from different timeline towards the ending is priceless. for me, yhe core heartbeat of this book is indeed the present time of Lucy Westenra, after so many centuries of harassment, of abuse, her pain and love is just so damn heavy, i remember annointed so many quotes in her present time chapters. “And then I saw her look left instead of...

Realistically this would probably be 3.5/5 stars. Maybe my expectations were too high? I'm not really sure. I found this book to be slow and honestly, I was a bit bored. I didn't truly start to get gripped by the story until around maybe 70%. The writing was beautiful and I loved the atmosphere. I struggled though with the characters. I didn't think they were incredibly developed. Lucy, I thought was done well. But the other characters I didn't feel as connected to until towards the very end....

When I first read dracula, I felt sorry for him. This book explores Lucy's story and I couldn't be happier to have picked it up. Kirsten writes the story as if she was there, and the insights to all the inner workings of Lucy's death are exposed. All in all great book, will read again. )
