Bound and Unbound: A paranormal novella duology

by J.R. Ward
Deep beneath the earth lies a forgotten nightmare, a subterranean labyrinth where the glymera’s most dangerous secrets are kept. When Nyx discovers a trail leading to this hidden prison camp, she risks everything to rescue her sister. What she finds instead is a brutal reality she never could have anticipated and a man whose existence has been erased by time.
The Jackal is a prisoner who has long since abandoned hope, his identity stripped away by years of confinement. Yet, when Nyx descends into his dark domain, an undeniable spark ignites between them. As they forge an unlikely alliance, they must navigate a lethal landscape of deceit and cruelty. Their survival depends on a desperate escape plan that threatens to shatter the only world they have ever known, even as they realize their bond might be destined for heartbreak.
This gripping entry in the Black Dagger Brotherhood universe perfectly captures the intensity of paranormal romance. Filled with high-stakes action and the soul-stirring found-family dynamics that J.R. Ward is famous for, this tale is an emotional rollercoaster. If you crave a dark, passionate urban fantasy where forbidden love meets epic sacrifice, this is the addictive read you have been waiting for.

The Jackal was absolutely epic! Everything around me melted away as I got lost in this world, caught up in the emotion, pain, and passion. It was incredibly intense and I hung on every detail and loved how it was woven together with an incredible build. It blew me away! I loved meeting The Jackal, he completely fascinated me. I felt for him and I had so many questions about some of his choices. There were so many emotional moments with him and it was heartbreaking at times learning what he had...

I was trying to read Sword Catcher, by Cassandra Clare, her new adult book, an was stuck in a rut in that book at 40%. I needed to close it. So I thought why not. I have been reading J.R. Ward, aka the WARden for a very very long time. It's familiar. I took a break for about 4 years. And, even though this is a new series, it feels like coming home. In this we get Rhage, who was never really my favorite, but this book made him my favorite fast. He and Bitty are adorable. And THE jackal, Peter,...

A little slow at the start of the book, but the rest of the book more than made up for it. Another great book by JR Ward. This book is so different than the rest of them, a whole new setting. Prison life as you could never imagine. Nyx just wants to find her sister who was imprisoned 50 years ago. When she finds the secret passage that leads her to the prison, she runs into someone known as The Jackal, or Jack, as she calls him. He knows she is the one destined to be his, but she can never be...

Honestly, this is a 3.5 rounded up. The story was great. It was very cool to see a fresh new plot in this world. I LOVED the whole secret prison camp thing, and Jack is a great character. But I seriously had to deduct points for Nyx being one of the most stupid heroines I have ever had the misfortune to read about. From practically the beginning she does things that should have killed her (she gets saved repeatedly by big strong guys, so I guess it’s ok??!! 🙄) and without giving away spoilers,...
