Vow of the Undead: Bloodrune Saga, Book 1

by Elsa Frey

About this book

Silver is a witch facing the executioner’s blade when an unexpected savior intervenes. King Drakkar, a ruthless ruler of a brutal Viking realm, demands her life in exchange for an arranged marriage. But as Silver enters his court, she discovers a terrifying truth: her husband and his elite circle are bloodthirsty vampires. Caught in a web of lethal court politics and forced into a life of servitude, she chooses to flee, only to be intercepted by the Gods themselves.

Marked as a divine huntress, Silver is thrust into a dark destiny tasked with slaughtering the undead. This sets the stage for a high-stakes game of cat and mouse where the king is willing to wage war against the heavens to reclaim his runaway queen. As she navigates this dangerous path, she finds herself trapped in a toxic love triangle between the divine forces controlling her fate and the morally gray ruler who refuses to let her go.

Blending Norse mythology with intense dark romance, this slow-burn epic captures the essence of forbidden love and second-chance heartbreak. With power-laced tension and a cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for the next installment, it is the perfect addictive escape for fans of gritty, high-stakes romantasy.

Reader Reviews

A really great read, a vague review, and a long wait walk into a bar…

May 15, 2026

This series has joined my list of favorite fantasy reads. Vampires, witches, Norse mythology, three of my favorite things. It’s really a fun (and heart wrenching) read. I saw the book mentioned on social media and I figured I’d give it a shot, especially since it’s on Kindle Unlimited. I’m really glad I did. The story was a fun, heartwarming, heart breaking, and crazy ride (in no particular order) and I’m glad I gave it a shot. I think I read the first two books within a week. The fact that the...

Vow of the Undead

September 3, 2025

This book started off super strong but the by the halfway mark it started becoming very confusing. The beginning introduces us to the FMC Silver, who is a witch and hides her magic because it’s illegal. Norse mythology (or at least the Norse gods) is used heavily in the first half of the story which is super interesting but it mostly disappears from the second half. Silver gets selected for execution and ends up being saved by Drak, who is the King, and eventually is taken to his castle....

Not worth the read.

It gets two stars because it kept me reading, which was only because of the \"cheap thrills\" of heated interactions with the \"love\" interests. Without those moments, it would have been an easy one star. The premise doesn't make sense. They are in a fantasy realm, not Midgard, but yet the whole plot is founded on the existence of Norse gods and Norse mythology. She could have just created her own pantheon and mythology. The FMC first saw the king at a track race. I cannot make this up. Then...

Vampires, Witches and Vikings need I say more. This book pulled on my heart strings and cliffhanger at the end left me needing book 2 asap. The plot and mythology was good. The character were fun and I adored the banter. I can't wait for book 2. )
