And So The Breaking Begins: Mindbreaker Duet, Book 1 (An Age of War and Prophecy 3)

by Evan Ashcroft
For eight hundred years, Julian has been the literal personification of Death. He is a force of nature, drifting through the shadows of New Orleans with cold, mechanical precision. He is a function, not a man, until he crosses paths with Mara Voss. A homicide detective haunted by the lingering presence of the afterlife, Mara has spent her life sensing the edge of the void. When she finally comes face-to-face with the entity she has always felt, the collision shatters the careful, immortal architecture of Julian’s existence.
This atmospheric urban fantasy breathes new life into the paranormal romance genre. As Julian begins to notice the world—and specifically the woman—he was never meant to perceive, he faces a terrifying transformation. For a being defined by detachment, the sudden, sharp weight of caring is a dangerous anomaly that threatens to unravel the very fabric of his purpose.
Perfect for fans of immersive, lyrical storytelling, this novel moves with the steady, chilling pace of inevitability. It is a haunting exploration of what happens when the end of all things discovers the one thing worth saving. If you are looking for a gripping, impossible love story, this is your next obsession.

Death Fell First by Evan Ashcroft is one of those books that pulls you in fast and doesn’t really let go. The tension builds so well, and just when you think you have a handle on what’s going on, it completely shifts direction in a way you don’t see coming. The characters feel real, which makes the story even more engaging. Definitely a 5-star read if you’re into twisty, fast-paced thrillers. )

This book caught my attention with its compelling premise- paranormal romance combined with mystery and set in New Orleans (a city I love for its stories and history and where the living and the dead seem to coexist). Looking forward to reading more! )
