And So The Breaking Begins: Mindbreaker Duet, Book 1 (An Age of War and Prophecy 3)

by Lyla Andrews
Escaping an abusive marriage is only the beginning of a nightmare for Brielle. Plagued by visions of a man who exists only in the shadows, she finds herself lured deep into the Appalachian wilderness, only to discover her savior is a lethal, immortal predator named Ambrose. He has been stalking her for months, waiting for her to break so he could stake his claim. Now, isolated in a remote cabin, she is trapped in a chilling bargain: sacrifice her own life or become the executioner for an entity that sustains itself on human death.
This dark paranormal romance masterfully blends southern gothic atmosphere with intense feminine rage. As the slow-burn tension mounts, the dynamic shifts from predator and prey to a volatile, enemies-to-lovers dance. Brielle’s journey is not one of damsel-in-distress tropes, but a gritty evolution of vengeance and power. She must decide if she will succumb to the monster or embrace the darkness to reclaim her own agency.
Lyla Andrews delivers a cathartic, emotionally charged read that transcends standard genre expectations. It is a haunting exploration of trauma and desire, perfect for those who prefer their romance with a side of bloodlust and morally grey complexity.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book but I loved the storytelling and way the author explored abuse, vengeance, love, etc. Brielle is was easy to connect with and it was effortless to follow and believe how she evolved from the beaten down woman to the stronger version of herself. Ambrose was also easy to like and his backstory made it all the more bittersweet to watch the relationship develop. Spice was excellent and the female rage was therapeutic is a twisted sort of way ;)....

First of all if you’re looking for pure smut this story is not for you. However, if you are looking for catharsis then this may be just what you need. This book is for the women who never got to scream about their abuse, who never got to rage and demand revenge or retribution. It’s for those of us who don’t get to look away from the corruption and violence of men. The author does not spare gory details, in fact she encourages you to witness the complexity of despair followed by rebirth. I loved...

I wish I could have given this book 5 stars, but it frustrated me to no end. Brielle was so annoyingly frustrating. I understand she's been traumatized, but her back and forth about Ambrose was the part to me that killed this book in the worst way. Like y'all are having these deep conversations in which he tells you about his kills and you still think he's doing unnecessary kills and is evil. Ridiculous! Not only that but there were some grammatical errors that I could look past, but when she...

So much love to Lyla Andrew’s for letting me be an ARC for this book. Liminal started slow for me. Brielle reminded me of a person I was a very long time ago. Relating to her in the beginning I think is why it was slow for me. I admired the strength Brielle was given. Reading how she just kept growing throughout the whole book was kind of mesmerizing in a way. When the MMC Ambrose became full in the story is when I got more to ok I need to know what is happening next. I loved the journal...
