Ru Roberts lives a quiet, unassuming life as a fourth-grade teacher in Reaper’s Hollow, struggling only with the strange, fiery sparks that fly whenever she touches electronics. Her existence is defined by the belief that she is flawed, a girl who ruins everything she touches. However, her world shifts when Cutter Michaels, a handsome newcomer with the ability to conjure blue flames, reveals a shocking truth: Ru is a Nephilim, the daughter of a half-angel and a half-demon, and a powerful Keeper destined for more than a classroom.
This gripping urban fantasy pulls readers into a high-stakes supernatural academy setting where the stakes are life and death. As mysterious forces begin slaughtering unmarked souls, Ru discovers that the Grim Reapers are harvesting humanity through ancient portals. To stop them, she must embrace her hidden heritage and trust a man who claims she is the key to balancing the scales between Heaven and the Underworld.
If you are looking for your next addictive paranormal romance, this story blends atmospheric suspense with the discovery of forbidden powers. Plagued by prophetic dreams of Thanatos, Ru must decide if she is ready to leave her ordinary life behind to face the darkness waiting in the shadows.

I was hooked from the first paragraph! It has a “dark and stormy night” feel from the first chapter, and each chapter after that keeps you hurrying to the next to see what happens. Characters are strong, believable, and show a lot of potential. They each have something intriguing that keeps you wanting to know more about their individual stories, and how they will fit into the bigger picture in future books. I enjoy a little romance with my mystery/fantasy, and this book doesn’t disappoint....

I liked it enough to have started the second book, but only because it’s under kindle unlimited. I found myself skipping over big parts of the internal narrative because it was boring- repetitive. I’m interested in the story, but not a lot of what’s in Ru’s head. It’s usually of the same thoughts. )

Ruin's Lot is another great book by ID Johnson. The story moves along quickly and the characters are seriously likeable. Ruin, an innocent teacher who thinks there is something wrong with her, learns that she is actually very special to both sides \"Good\" and \"Evil\". Which side will she choose? And what do the marking's on her back mean? I can't wait for book 2!!! ) One person found this helpful

This was a really great read! It has characters that you'll either love or hate because they seem so realistic. The story is full of scares, intrigue, romance, and deception. I can't wait to read the next one. )
