And So The Breaking Begins: Mindbreaker Duet, Book 1 (An Age of War and Prophecy 3)

by E. G. Sparks
Seventeen years of surviving the foster system taught Arien one rule: keep your head down. But when a brush with death reveals she is far from human, her life of anonymity vanishes. Dragged into Invicta, a hidden academy for nephilim, she is thrust into a brutal war between angels and demons. She is no longer just an orphan; she is a powerful weapon in a conflict she never asked to join.
The academy is a dangerous web of secrets, and at its center are two men who refuse to let her go. Xavier, the brooding, grumpy second-in-command, is convinced she belongs to him by fate, while the magnetic Kole sparks a fire in her veins that she cannot ignore. This is a high-stakes dark romance where the lines between protector and captor blur, and every touch carries the weight of a celestial destiny.
As Arien struggles to master her dormant powers, she must navigate the suffocating intensity of a fated-mates connection and the slow-burn tension of a world built on bloodlines and betrayal. If you crave immersive world-building, morally gray warriors, and a fierce heroine fighting for her autonomy, this pulse-pounding series is your next obsession. The war has begun, and Arien is the key.

One night she is late and ends up getting thrown out because she dared complain about the condition of the bed she was expected to sleep in. She makes a decision to go and stay with another...

While the beginning of this story may be slower than expected, it ultimately develops into a captivating tale. This has world building, action, suspense, secrets, survival and a slow burn romance. We do receive a semi-cliffhanger, I can’t wait for book 2. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. ) One person found this helpful

\"Sky Ice\" was definitely an interesting read. The world-building is a little all over the place, but that happens a lot when it's the first book in a fantasy series. There’s a lot thrown at you early on, and I was confused at times, but I still would like to see where the rest of the series goes. I liked the characters and really enjoyed the start of a found family vibe (which I’m always a sucker for). Even when I wasn’t totally sure what was happening plot-wise, I still wanted to keep...
