The King Is Dead: The Kingdom of the Krow, Book 2

by Aimee Lynn

About this book

The stakes have never been higher in this electrifying sequel to The King Has Fallen. Archangels have descended from the heavens to interfere in mortal affairs, and for Yilan, the arrival of these celestial beings brings more than just divine judgment. She finds herself trapped in a high-stakes game of survival, caught in the crosshairs of an archangel determined to claim her. As the boundaries between salvation and damnation blur, Yilan must rely on her wits to navigate a world where the lines between hero and villain are constantly shifting.

This dark romantasy dives deep into the tension of forbidden love, masterfully utilizing the enemies-to-lovers trope to turn every interaction into a spark of volatile chemistry. Forced proximity throws Yilan into the path of her greatest threat, leading to intense, high-octane moments that fans of the genre crave. With witty banter and a generous helping of spice, the narrative pushes the boundaries of celestial romance, challenging the very nature of loyalty and desire.

Whether you are drawn to the grit of fallen angels or the magnetic pull of a hate-to-love connection, this installment delivers a gripping experience. It is a bold, violent, and unapologetic addition to the series that promises to keep you tethered to every page until the very end.

The saga continues!

And it’s oh-so-good. Without giving away too many spoilers (which should come as no surprise if you’ve read the first one), we have a captured Melek back in Yilan’s kingdom. SHE IS SOMETHING. And then we get to watch Melek’s internal battle as he comes to grip with his mate-bond and the fact that his mate is one big boss babe. This book is the pinnacle of suspense as you grapple along with Melek on how he’s going to approach his new relationship, in a new kingdom, with a new leader. It keeps...

The King Is Dead continued to pull me deeper into the series. I genuinely enjoy all of the characters, but this installment especially shines with its focus on Gall and Izzy, whom I adore wholeheartedly. Their story is beautifully written, emotionally engaging, and added so much heart to the overall narrative. Another strong entry that left me eager for more. )

FMC morphs loses her strength - becomes creepy and submissive

January 22, 2026

I liked a lot about this book, and I liked the first book. But, as the book progresses, the characters seem to change in ways that violate the personalities they've established. In particular, the FMC becomes bizarre in the sex scenes, becoming whiny, clingy, and overly submissive. Gave me the creeps. The Christian mythology is underdeveloped and exists as a never ending reference to 'God's will' and God's plan' which felt like a real missed opportunity considering the richness of a fallen...

10/10 INCREDIBLE! MUST READ!!!

Let me start off by saying I can’t remember the last time I liked the 2nd book more than the 1st!!! I am blown away. I am most impressed by the ML being a layered, complex character. I feel like most of the time the MLs can be cold, 1 dimensional, and prop-like but Melek is a completely fleshed out individual character and equally a joy to read as Yilan. I LOVED the dual POVs here which I usually do not prefer. Another thing I typically don’t love is folklore/religion/mythology based stories...

Perfect Balance Between Fantasy Plot/World Building, Emotional Connection, and Spice! 5 Stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say I LOVED watching all of the characters grow and change organically as events unfold. Melek and Yilan’s thoughts and feelings are sometimes volatile and raw, but honest at all times, which I value as a person and a reader. The thing that captivated me the most from the first book continued to captivate me in The King is Dead: the social dynamics and characters take on a life of their own and draw me in as if I’m living in this world. I’ve never...
