Doves and Demons: Freaks of Nature Duet, Book 1

by Clio Evans

About this book

Step into the neon-drenched, blood-soaked streets of 1920s London, a city where the glitz of the Roaring Twenties hides a grimy underworld of fangs, feathers, and forbidden magic. When Irene is snatched from her ordinary life by a gang of monstrous outcasts, she is plunged into a dark, steampunk reality where humanity is a forgotten relic and the predators rule the night.

This gripping dark romance introduces the Freaks, a quartet of lethal entities including a mothman, an Unseelie, and a sinister demonic plague doctor. As they pull Irene into their chaotic orbit, the lines between captor and lover blur. The narrative thrives on a tension-filled slow-burn, exploring a terrifying, all-consuming connection that demands everything she has to offer—her mind, her body, and her very soul.

Perfect for readers who crave high-stakes why-choose paranormal romances, this story delivers an intoxicating blend of atmospheric world-building and off-the-charts spice. Clio Evans weaves a tale of vengeance and obsession that challenges whether Irene is a victim to be devoured or a catalyst for liberation. If you are hunting for a visceral, monster-filled escape that pushes boundaries, this duet offers a hauntingly seductive journey you will not soon forget.

Spice 20/5 Plot 7/5 Let’s just start off with the spice, cause there really is a lot of it, and the smut level of it is off the charts! I feel like this book did me so good because after a while all the books just mash together and this was THE PERFECT pallet cleanser for me. The steampunk/1920s vibe was something I haven’t read at all so that’s was so refreshing. Also it’s like a mafia, but paranormal at the same time. Honestly this author did great combining all these crazy things together...

Fun characters and world

Overall a great spicy and interesting story. I enjoyed this, but not my favorite from Clio. It’s steampunk world with monsters, so it’s definitely a good read. I couldn’t connect with Irene for some reason. I think that’s why I didn’t love this one. I did really love the guys though. They were perfectly balance, as ally hit a should be (insert Thanos gif). The guys were delicious and the spicy scenes were eventful. There is so much more that I can see happening in this world and looking forward...

Absolutely All My Deepest Darkest Desires in a Book

WOW. This was actually my first book by Clio Evans, suggested to me by a friend because I like steampunk, the 1920s, and plague doctors. Slam dunk suggestion, now I'm hooked. I'll try to review without any story spoilers because that was just as enticing as the smut: THE CHARACTERS Irene: Smart, capable, a heroine I really enjoyed living vicariously through James: Mean and bossy but sweet deep down Charles: Darkly caring Morte: OH MY GOD, MORTE. He started out as my least favorite but somehow...

I didn't love this, but I didn't hate it. It just wasn't for me. I liked the monster aspect. That was fun. The relationships kind of gave me the ick. )
