Crown Me Dead: A Dark Fantasy Romance (Heartstring Duet)
Liv Zander
by J.D. Monroe
Every year, the Holy City purges its population by sending nine women to the Demon King, a sacrifice meant to appease the darkness beyond their walls. When Lena Tessyr is selected, she refuses to accept the grim fate that claimed her sister. Her desperate attempt to flee is thwarted, landing her directly in the heart of Shan Iranath, a terrifying hell-realm where nightmares take physical form and human hope is a forgotten commodity.
Instead of a swift execution, Lena finds herself ensnared by the Demon King, who marks her as his own. As she navigates the treacherous politics of his shadowed court, her rigid worldview begins to splinter. She discovers that the monsters she was raised to fear harbor secrets far more complex than the propaganda of the Holy City ever suggested. Caught between a forbidden, magnetic pull toward her captor and an agonizing need to rescue the family she left behind, Lena must decide where her loyalties truly lie.
This gripping paranormal romance masterfully blends high-stakes tension with a slow-burn connection that defies expectations. If you crave immersive world-building and enemies-to-lovers tropes set against a backdrop of dark, atmospheric hell-realms, this journey of survival and forbidden desire is your next obsession.

ooo... that beginning was rough. it took me like 2 months to readt the first few chapters, but like 2 days to read the rest, lol. once i got through the first part, i couldn't put it down. eventhough i wanted to strangle Lena several times. i feel like anything else i say would be spoiler-y, just know, it's worth the read! )

I loved the story line. My biggest frustration with books is that there is more detail in the beginning and then the ending is quick and rushed. The beginning of this book, in my opinion, could have been shortened while still giving an understanding of their city. She repeated herself a few to many times. I love and adore Fen and the way he treats her, I love how level headed he is. Always wanting to make her happy and his people. I do love that Lena finds peace and love with Fen and a purpose...

Shadowmarked by J.D. Moore is ones of the best new books I've read in awhile. The world building is wonderful. The characters will draw you in. The twist in the story will have you wanting more. Be prepared to read it in ones setting. )

I enjoyed every moment I was in this demon fantasy world that J. D. has written! I couldn’t put this book down—I had to find out what would happen to Karlena against the misogynistic rulers, and I couldn’t wait until she arrived in Shan Iranath and was introduced to the Demon King. All of the demons have such beautiful names, but I see why they would use nicknames. Stories like Fenomiras and Karlena’s are why I love to read romance, and I loved everything about this story—all of the intense...
