The Dead Ringer (A Standalone Reverse Harem Romance)

by Michaela Haze

About this book

Mara is a Drude, a nightmare demon existing only as a spirit without a physical form. When a mysterious, cataclysmic force begins erasing lower demons from existence in the bowels of Hell, she makes a desperate gamble. She plunges into the Human Realities, hitching a ride in the bodies of unsuspecting mortals to escape annihilation and finally experience the life she was denied.

Living undercover as a human is a high-stakes game. Mara finds herself entangled in a dangerous conspiracy involving Fae politics and a grisly homicide investigation. As she navigates the shadows, she realizes the very Hunters sworn to track down and destroy her kind are the men she is inexplicably drawn to. The line between predator and prey blurs as she discovers the shocking truth: these lethal men are her destined mates.

This standalone paranormal reverse harem romance masterfully balances dark humor with a gripping, high-stakes plot. While the chemistry is undeniable, the story prioritizes character depth and a witty, irreverent protagonist over pure spice. If you are craving a journey through hell-realms filled with morally bankrupt demons, forbidden connections, and constant suspense, this addictive tale will keep you turning pages until the very end.

Loved this book. I can't believe it's been sitting in my TBR list for ever and just got around to reading it just 3 days ago. Yes that's how long it took me to read it only because I had to sleep. It was that \"unputdownable\" and yes i just made that word up! Although it needs a few tweaks orthographically speaking it was well written and a great plot that kept you engaged and wanting more. One thing I do find annoying is the over use of sarcasm. In another note if there is such a thing as...

I have to give it the title...

I'll be up front with saying that this is the first book I pick up from this author so my opinion is based solely on this one book (I start with that because I've already picked up Devil's Advocate and I reserve the right to change my mind once I read more of this author's work). So, that out of the way let's talk about this book. To list some positives, first, it's absolutely spurt-whatever-liquid-you're-drinking hilarious. Mara's habit of quick comebacks and basically being without a filter,...

A different read dark humor at it's best

Although it's a reverse harem, It's more about the people than the spice. It's not really spicy. Our main lead is a very funny and fun character. Her mind is in the gutter most of the time and yet she is somewhat childlike in her view of the world. And yet she doesn't read like an annoying teenager. I liked it. Though I did find myself crying at some point it's not an angsty story. It's fun, interesting and even uplifting. Refreshing. )

Amazing little gem

First time reader from this author and I loved dead ringer! I don't know where to begin! Ok I loved everything from the storyline, to the funny and lovable characters and also how I really dig some of the mystical creatures from folklore that had a unique twist into what they really were in this book. I love a book that surprises me, and this beautiful little gem did that. This is a amazing RH, with really hot and devoted men, and an equally amazing heroine. I loved how silly and crazy mara...

This story centers around a nightmare demon forced to survive working for a fae after her unit in Hell was killed. I was excited for the premise of this book and the chance to try something from this author for the first time. I'm sad this is standalone since I loved this world and its characters. Haze developed better characters in this standalone than others I have seen in multiple book series. I loved everything about this, and this quickly became a favorite book. I'm anxious to read all the...
