About this book

New Year’s Eve in Deadwood is supposed to be about lemon bars, festive spirits, and board games, but Violet Parker is about to learn that her family traditions carry a much darker weight. When a soul-stealing Hungarian devil composed of smoke and shadow crashes the party, the evening shifts from cozy celebration to a desperate fight for survival. To save her aunt from a supernatural demise, Violet must master a lethal trick she barely understands, proving that in her lineage, family legacy is often just another word for fatal.

This gripping short story perfectly balances the spooky allure of the paranormal genre with the sharp, witty humor that fans of the Deadwood series adore. As Violet navigates the thin veil between the living and the spectral, you will find yourself swept up in a fast-paced mystery that feels both terrifying and irresistibly fun.

Whether you are a longtime devotee of the series or a newcomer seeking a high-stakes paranormal romance, this installment delivers a unique blend of quirky characters, heart-pounding suspense, and unexpected charm. It is the perfect bite-sized escape for anyone who loves their ghost stories served with a side of romance and a dash of dangerous family secrets.

WOW. Absolutely fantastic short story. It is the best. Truly fun, interesting, full of humor, scary stuff. Just the right balance of humor, fright, fun and romance. A really great addition to the other books also helps link Quint's happenings up to Violet's. Making the things going on in the two different stories connect. I really love the story and am eagerly awaiting the next full book. I too wonder h o w Violet is going to catch the critter and will be waiting to see. Seriously a terrific read....

I absolutely love this series! The characters that Ann Charles has created and woven into this hilarious mystery series are unique, memorable, quirky, and lovable. I am truly amazed at the story-lines this author comes up with as she pits her characters against the evils of another world—and sometimes against each other. I love all of the characters in this series and enjoy dropping back into Deadwood to visit them again. Life is never dull in Violet's world, that's for sure. I particularly...

As much as I love this series...

The first is that it is turning quite dark and it involves children which is just a really difficult angle to have included too much of and is...
