Of Fate and Phantoms: Ministry of Curiosities, Book 7

by Shiromi Arserio

About this book

Charlie and Lincoln have finally found a rhythm in their lives, but the quiet is shattered when a cryptic seer delivers a bone-chilling warning: the Prince of Wales is marked for death, and the threat wears the face of his own deceased father. While the rest of the court dismisses the prophecy as madness, Charlie and Lincoln know that in their world, the line between the living and the dead is dangerously thin.

This seventh installment of the beloved Ministry of Curiosities series masterfully blends chilling ghost encounters with high-stakes royal intrigue. As the duo navigates the grimy, treacherous slums of London to track a lethal shape-shifter, the pressure mounts on every front. They must protect the monarchy from a phantom menace while managing the delicate, long-awaited evolution of their own relationship.

For fans of romantic steampunk adventures, this story offers the perfect balance of suspense and heart. The slow-burn tension between Charlie and Lincoln reaches a fever pitch as they face their most formidable adversary yet. Between the supernatural mysteries and the daunting prospect of meeting Lincoln’s parents, the question remains: will they survive the hunt long enough to finally commit to a future together?

Romantic steampunk adventure

Charlotte and Lincoln have to search the London slums for a killer that can apparently change his appearance, while also working through their relationship. It is a great series, with well written characters and evolving plotline, and more and more romance. )

C.J. Archer never disappoints.

This is the seventh book in one of my favorite series and it did not disappoint, but then C.j. Archer never does. I have so enjoyed following Charlie and Lincoln through all their adventures. It was great seeing old characters and getting to know new ones. This author just has a way of writing that makes you want to learn more about every character you meet. I was happy to see the relationship between Charlie and Lincoln get back to being happy. In past books I've wanted to smack Lincoln for...

Charlie gets her spine back, and new plot line develops nicely

October 19, 2017

So the last book in the series tied up the murder mystery we had followed through the serial novels, and I’m happy to say that the new plot line in this book is just as intricate and well-developed as the previous ones were. The romance is at a standstill, but only because Charlie got her spine back and hasn’t just caved to Lincoln since the unfortunate “sending away for your own good” event. The typical Victorian class nonsense does get addressed with numerous character romances and thankfully...

Creative and entertaining

Archer revisits many of the traditional types of fantasy and romance: a dark, brooding and attractive man, haunted by his demons and afraid to feel, and a heroine that needs to overcome herself and social conventions to reach love. A refreshing take is that, even for the time in which the stories are set, Archer's females are not doe-eyed simpletons - they are strong women who fight society's preconceptions about them, and prove themselves how powerful they can be in a world dominated by men....
