To be unwanted and unloved is a hollow ache that drives the soul to seek salvation in the most forbidden corners of existence. Set against the mist-shrouded peaks and shadowed valleys of Georgian-era Wales, this haunting gothic romance explores the thin, jagged line between desperate imagination and supernatural reality. When a lonely heart conjures a companion to fill the void, the result is Sebastian—a figure who defies the boundaries of mortality.
Is Sebastian merely a manifestation of a fractured mind, or is he a Tulpa—an entity birthed from intense desire and granted independent life? As the narrative unfolds, it challenges the belief that death is the final chapter of human connection. Drawing on the dark, atmospheric traditions of Dark Romanticism, the story asks a chilling question: what becomes of a creation when its architect is gone, and can love truly transcend the decay of the flesh?
Perfect for readers seeking an evocative paranormal romance, this tale is a masterclass in emotional longing and spectral obsession. It is a timeless, atmospheric journey that proves some bonds are far too potent to be severed by the grave. Prepare to be drawn into a world where the heart’s deepest cravings manifest in ways that are as beautiful as they are terrifying.

Please note this is an updated review: I thought I would rewrite my review of what is still my favorite book hands down out of all the offerings from Adam Nicke. After multiple rereads of this amazing book, it still resonates deep in my heart and soul. I think anyone reading this would also be enamored with Adam's wonderful way with words and the timeless story it tells of a love that survives even death. I have commented to others that I would like to be buried or cremated with this book as it...

Seldom have time to just sit and read, but thought I would start with just a chapter or a few pages - two hours later I was 125 pages in and HAD to put it down to finish the next day. Yes, it's just that captivating. Classic tones of good and evil and the perceived variations of those sometimes impossible standards to which we hold ourselves prisoner, and the irresistible power of enduring love are part of this powerful narrative. Time well spent! Thank you Adam. )

Not my usual genre but I thoroughly enjoyed this gothic novel from beginning to end. Nicke surely has a way with words. His prose draws you into a world of romance, sadness and everything in between. His writing flows so beautifully that I couldn’t put it down. By the end, I longed to leap into the pages and feel what the characters did and keep the story going. I will now move on to his Grim Fairy Tales where I know I will be able to feel deeply again across the spectrum. Keep writing Adam...
