The Outcast's Sight

by Gillian O'Rourke

About this book

Ruth Harrison has spent her life being the village pariah, a woman branded by the unwanted gift of seeing those who have already departed. Living on the jagged, atmospheric edge of the Irish Burren, she guards her isolation like a shield, until a mysterious locket awakens a terrifying new depth to her powers. When a local woman is murdered and a child vanishes, the restless dead stop whispering and start screaming for justice.

For fans of gripping urban fantasy, this story masterfully weaves high-stakes suspense with a slow-burn, complicated romance. Ruth is thrust into a desperate investigation alongside Detective Darragh O'Leary, a man torn between skepticism and the impossible truth, and Ryan Donnelly, a ghost from her own painful history. As the boundaries between the living and the dead dissolve, Ruth must stop hiding from her heritage and confront the darkness threatening to consume her community.

Gillian O’Rourke delivers a haunting, raw exploration of grief and survival that feels as visceral as a Dean Koontz thriller. Packed with paranormal tension and emotional depth, this is an unputdownable journey for readers who crave wounded, resilient heroines and mysteries that linger long after the final page is turned.

A Compelling Read

We do not just read this book. We feel it. We experience it. It was that good. Her vivid descriptions made me feel like I was reading a Dean Koontz novel. My heart ached for Ruth from the first chapter. The fact that she was bullied from a very young age. I can only imagine the anger she had balled up inside her. Being bullied is bad enough in a big city like Houston. Imagine living in a small town. The stares. The whispers behind your back. The sleepless nights. I despised Ryan at the...

Haunting, raw, and gorgeously Irish. I devoured it.

This book didn’t just pull me in, it claimed me. Gillian O’Rourke has a gift for writing wounded women with spines, and Ruth “Ghosty” Harrison might just be my new patron saint of emotional damage and spiritual grit. She sees spirits, sure, but what gutted me was how much she sees everyone else’s pain, and still shoulders it like it's hers to bear. That kind of ache? That kind of strength? That’s what I read for. The setting is chef’s kiss, the Burren is a character in itself, whispering...

I totally enjoyed reading this. There was constant information that made me want to read each and every page as quickly as possible. Very hard to put it down. )

Such an amazing book!

The Outcast’s Sight by Gillian O’Rourke is an amazing, suspenseful thriller that reminded me of some of my favorite shows, Medium and Ghost Whisperer. Ruth grew up as an outcast in her small farming community, relentlessly teased in school and branded with the cruel nickname “Ghosty” by someone she never expected to care for as an adult. She remained at home with her estranged mother and her alcoholic grandfather, who shared a gift similar to hers, one that may have contributed to his drinking....
